ABSTRACT
The 25 members of the Chester and North Wales branch of the Institute of Logistics and Transport took part in a visit to the new roll-on/roll-off (ro-ro) facilities at the Port of Mostyn on the Dee Estuary in Flintshire. The visit was co-hosted by Jim O'Toole and Will Calderbank. This facility is the first new ro-ro port to be built in Great Britain since 1992 and represents a significant investment by the P and O Irish Sea and the Port of Mostyn. Sailing time between Mostyn and Dublin is six hours and the overnight sailing gives commercial traders the significant benefit of late collections and early deliveries. Jim O'Toole said that since the service to Dublin, Ireland commenced in November 2001, the level of traffic through the port and the new terminal has exceeded expectations. Members were also given an escorted tour of one of the ships which operate the Mostyn-to-Dublin service.
