ABSTRACT
The findings contained in the Transport of Goods by Road in Great Britain bulletin for 1999, were presented. Total freight moved by registered heavy goods within the country fell by less than one percent from 150 billion tons in 2000, to 149 billion tons in 2001. Tons lifted fell by less than one percent from 1,593 million tons in 2000 to 1,581 million tons in 2001. The average length of haul was 94 kilometers, unchanged from 2000. The total number of vehicle kilometers fell by 3.4 percent from 22,990 million kilometers in 2000 to 22,207 million kilometers in 2001. The Continuing Survey of Road Goods Transport is based on a weekly sample of heavy goods vehicles over 3.5 tons gross vehicle weight.
