ABSTRACT
The British International Freight Association (BIFA) is proposing the establishment of key road transport routes throughout Europe, which would be kept open on a permanent basis, in response to a recent European Commission proposal concerning harmonization of the current regime of restricted driving periods within Europe. The driving restrictions are applied in several European countries during certain times of the year and at weekends. The BIFA is in favor of harmonized rules that are applied in order to recognize environmental and social concerns that can exist in communities affected by the movement of Heavy Goods Vehicles.
