ABSTRACT
The conference for the members of the Heathrow Branch of the Institute of Logistics and Transport for 1999 is the main focus of this article. Rod Eddington picked up the theme of profiting through change, when he spoke to the largest audience for some time at the branch. He focused on the rapidly changing global airline industry. Up to 20 years ago the business was dominated by the likes of Pan Am, and much of the industry was government-owned. It is not only the structure of the airline industry that is changing. Technical change is also taking place and if, to the untrained professional, there would not appear to be a great deal of difference between a Boeing 747-400 and a 777.
