ABSTRACT
Reports that its summer 1999 meeting, the Logistics Directors' Forum again looked at the implications of Internet-related developments and examined how properly worked out electronic commerce strategies might enhance commercial performance. The four key elements of an intelligent electronic commerce solution were identified as an intelligent customer-facing front office, operations and product excellence in the back office, optimized Internet fulfillment to allow real-time global visibility across heterogenous systems offering product availability and price information from different vendors, and collaboration among trading partners on both the procurement and sales sides of the business. One of the challenges that has to be faced is the need to provide the customer with an experience that fully meets his or her requirements.
