ABSTRACT
Why more and more organizations in Europe feel the need to send staff on language training courses, but are all too often getting it wrong is the main focus of this article. Grammar and language structure is often taught superficially and can be completely inadequate for use in a business or social environment. Most European languages are structured in such a way that there is a distinct 'need to know' which word 'agrees' with which. Most would accept that moving at a pace that suits each individual is the most fruitful way to learn, giving the freedom to ask questions and explore areas which are of interest to them. The ability to learn in large groups can be affected by factors, which are not directly related to previous knowledge of what is being taught.
