ABSTRACT
The book "Recruiting Within the Law," which was published at the end of February 2001 by the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development, is the main focus of this article. It identifies the recent changes to the employment laws of Great Britain and pinpoints areas of the recruitment process that warrant careful attention. With the Police Act 1997 shortly to come into force, authors Patricia Leighton and Giles Proctor provide answers to hot issues such as whether or not recruiters can inquire about spent criminal convictions, or what legal factors to consider when recruiting on the Internet. The book refers to the newly enforced legislation such as the Human Rights Act and how asking questions during interview concerning the applicant's personal and private life may be in breach of the law.
