ABSTRACT
A report on transport and logistics developments in Asia, as of 2001, is presented. The author first described the Tianjin port, which is one of the main ports serving Beijing and the north of China. The expressway link between Tianjin and Beijing is excellent. The author discovered that tolls are expensive and tend to undo the theory that the more trips one make each day with a truck, the better. The tolls just add up. The author also spent much of his time looking at warehouses. He first looked at facilities currently in use with his client in Tianjin and Beijing, and secondly looking at what is on the market in the Guangzhou area with a view to setting up a storage and transit facility. many of the sites seem to comprise a number of separate units of between 1,500 and 2,000 square meters, high enough at 5-6 meters to take perhaps three levels of pallet racking comfortably.
