ABSTRACT
The Freight Transport Association, whose members consign over 90 percent of railroad freight, has called for a prioritization of rail network investment after consultation with its members identified the top nine problems areas in Great Britain. Members felt that these key trade routes must be put at the top of the list for railroad freight because they are already suffering considerable congestion or because any further increase in railroad freight and passenger traffic will soon cause trains to come to a halt in these areas. The key rail trade routes are the West Coast Line, the reopened West Midlands line, the Cherwell Valley line, the North London line, the East Coast Main Line, the South Humberside main line, the Hope Valley line, the Carlisle junction and the Reading junction.
