ABSTRACT
The Institute of Logistics and Transport has realized that a travel plan could form a valuable component of its daily operations. A travel plan is all part of best practice and can help achieve cost and time savings, as well as making life for staff easier by increasing available options and making a positive contribution to the environment. In the spring of 2001, the institute's travel plan and the Sensible Methods Aim to Reduce Traffic scheme was developed. A Travel Plan Group was established consisting of staff representatives from each section of the institute. The group meets every couple of weeks to discuss possible initiatives for the plan. In March 2001 a staff travel survey was carried out to determine current trends and opinions on various suggestions. A mission statement is also being prepared that will outline the key features of the plan and the ideas behind it.
