ABSTRACT
The results of survey on recruitment, skills development and retention issues, which was commissioned by the Road Haulage and Distribution Training Council and conducted among owners or haulage businesses in Great britain were presented. Almost 40 percent of employers were finding recruiting difficult, particularly for drivers with C+E licenses. other vacancies described as 'hard to fill' were in traffic management and general management. Quizzed on the skills gaps of existing staff that most affected businesses, the highest priority was information technology skills and abilities for both management and drivers. For management staff, other issues included logistical management skills and understanding of legislation.
