ABSTRACT
The meeting of the Logistics Directors' Forum (LDF) which was held in 1999 is the main focus of this article. Here, logistics providers were issued with the challenge of transforming their current business models when renowned supply chain expert John Gattorna, addressed the meeting. His keynote presentation on new business models in logistics service provision was enthusiastically received by the audience of senior supply chain professionals representing a broad section of users, providers and influences. In the break-out sessions LDF members examined drivers for outsourcing and how they are changing, together with user priorities for the development of logistics service providers and how outsourcing partnerships create real value. The LDF is a self-funding network of senior professionals active in supply chain management and logistics which operates under the umbrella of the Institute of Logistics and Transport.
