ABSTRACT
The year 1999, according to the electronic business analyst firm AMR Research, will see a battle for dominance in the Supplier Relationship Management (SRM) market. In the report published by the company, Beth Barling explains how companies can make significant cost savings and increase overall revenue, by applying strategic sourcing techniques to the purchasing process. The company identified four stages of electronic sourcing adoption. These are spot reverse auctions, dynamic negotiations, integrated SRM and collaborative SRM. The strategic sourcing of goods has always been part of the supplier/buyer relationship but emerging software applications that support the sourcing process offer increased benefits. Electronic sourcing tools speed up the process and make it more accurate and efficient for both parties.
