ABSTRACT
This article reports on the meeting of the members of the Birmingham and Coventry branch of the Institute of Logistics and Technology in 2000. Darrell Elliot from the Land Rover Vehicles company spoke to the members about its plans to open a rail link from the production plant in Solihuli to the West Coast Main Line in Great Britain. The project will be developed through four phases, aiming towards a first quarter of 2002 target. The total development process includes concept evaluation, feasibility study, consultation and consents procurement and implementation. The reasons why the company has chosen a railroad-based logistics solution were discussed in this article.
