ABSTRACT
As the first anniversary of the integration of the Institute of Logistics and Transport passes in 2000, this article reflects on the aims and achievements of the former Chartered Institute of Transport's Transport Planning Group in its new guise as the Transport Planning Special Interest Group (SIG). The role of the SIG is to enable transport planners to contribute to transport policy debates, disseminate information about best practice in transport planning, and promote recognized professional qualifications in transport planning. The SIG aims to secure its objectives through its activities in encouraging the holding of area and branch events for institute members, conferences and workshops that enable transport planners in transport policy work to participate in discussions, debates and lectures and thus develop their own personal networks of professional contracts.
