ABSTRACT
Findings contained in the report from the Datamonitor on European logistics company benchmarking were presented. The development of comprehensive pan-European networks and increasing specialism in contract logistics operations are the key priorities for logistics operators in Europe. The report charts how the different growth strategies adopted are shifting the strategic positioning of the major players. According also to the report, Exel Logistics had the highest contract logistics turnover in 1998 and that the BOC Distribution, the TDG Logistics, and the Christian Salvesen and Hays Distribution achieved the highest operating margins in 1998. The report claims the key factors determining the strategic positioning of logistics companies are the company's origins and growth strategies it pursues.
