ABSTRACT
This article reports that Alan West has been appointed as the first Green Transport Officer by the Doncaster Council in 2000. The new role of Alan West has been jointly funded by the Health Action Zone, the council and the Doncaster Health Authority. His primary objective will be to concentrate on the existing travel-to-work patterns of the council staff before moving on the issue of green transport for the public. The 14,000 staff who work for the authority will be receiving a questionnaire. All staff are being urged to complete the survey, as well as providing information on travel problems and suggesting possible improvements to the daily journey to work. The results of this questionnaire will provide the foundations for a commuter plan which will benefit both staff and the community by reducing traffic congestion.
