ABSTRACT
This article reports that results from the latest survey of average door-to-door journey times by various modes of transportation in London, England have been published by the Department of the Environment, Transport and the Regions. The 1999 relationships between the journey times by different modes are broadly similar to the patterns in the previous 1993 and 1996 surveys. For both types of journey in each of the three surveys, bicycle was the fastest mode, followed by rail and car with similar journey times, with bus being the slowest mode. Average taxi times on central area journeys were similar to bicycle times but quicker than by car. Journey times increased between 1993 and 1996 for all modes except bicycle.
