ABSTRACT
This article reports that the MSAS Global Logistics organization has published, as of 2000, a guide to outsourcing. Aimed at companies which are either considering outsourcing their logistics operation for the first time, or are thinking about changing their logistics supplier, the guide examines potential objectives, varying processes and likely implementation issues. The guide sets out to help its readers achieve the maximum benefits that outsourcing can bring by helping them to identify the most appropriate approaches for their individual needs and to avoid the hidden pitfalls of the outsourcing processes. The guide also explores the more complex issues of how to approach scoping decisions, emphasizing the need to establish the right balance between innovation and replication, each of which carries its own risks and rewards.
