ABSTRACT
This article focuses on the speech delivered by Nils Arthur, senior vice president of the European division of the Volvo Truck Corp., during the launching of the company's new Volvo FL range of trucks which is focused on the medium-duty segment. He believes that by the year 2020, 85 percent of the population will be urban dwellers, and this will bring even greater pressures from that population on to those in road transport to take ever increasing care and regard for the environment. Environmental factors within the FL range's specification include an ex-works gas-powered version, improved aerodynamics and airflow panels to reduce fuel consumption, reduced kerb weight, and a six-liter engine available in the Euro 3 emission standard.
