ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Institute of Logistics and Transport, along with other professional bodies, has placed, and will continue to place, great emphasis on the importance of Continuing Professional Development (CPD). One of the methods by which the institute can support its members in their CPD activities is by giving them the opportunity to work with a mentor. A CPD mentor plan was implemented in 2001. Mentoring affinity groups were decided upon after consultation and proteges are matched with mentors in the supply chain management, passenger transport or transport planning affinity groups. The overall emphasis is that this scheme is entirely for the benefit of members to support them in their career development, upgrade of membership, study or to work through particular issues or problems.
