ABSTRACT
This article outlines the major features of supply chain collaboration identified in a report published by the Forrester Research company in October 2000. Buyers expect to complete half of their direct materials purchasing through the Internet in 2002. Most firms expect to streamline their supply chains using electronic marketpklaces to transact and coordinate activities with their suppliers. Major concerns still exist related to the confidentiality of supply chain information, namely that electronic marketplaces will make such information visible to competitors. The report identified four levels of supply chain coordination. These are optimization, exception management, monitoring, and standards. An alternative business model is presented in this article which simplifies the relationship framework and limits the amount of shared data.
