ABSTRACT
This article reports on why in a world economy that is, as of 2001, becoming weaker by the day, prospects for the next two to three years are far from encouraging for those who have to predict the residual value of heavy trucks. Commercial vehicle registrations in August 2001 were up by six percent. August sales of lightweight vehicles exceeded expectations with off-road sector up 90 percent and microvan, cdv, pick-up and panel van sectors, up to eight percent, three percent, 24 percent and four percent respectively. Overall, market for commercial vehicles 3.5 tons up by nearly six percent. Numbers were also up in the heavyweight sectors, with the exception of three-axle, four-axle rigids and tractor units, up 22 percent, two percent and 16 percent respectively.
