ABSTRACT
This article presents methods to increase vehicle fuel efficiency, which were formulated during a full day 1999 conference held at the University of Huddersfield. Check that weekly or monthly averages are produced by total distance divided by total fuel used rather than average of the daily averages. In most cases there is a seasonal pattern to the mile a gallon averages, peaking in July and August and bottoming out in December and February. When finding a large discrepancy in daily mile a gallon investigate it, do not just average it or ignore it. To determine the effect of different equipment under controlled conditions accurately, enter the Institute of Road Transport Engineers fuel trials that are run every year in June.
