ABSTRACT
The author of this article examines the role that strategic demand management plays in improving companies' competitiveness. The company combines direct demand signals from forecasts and projects, based on historical figures of current consumers, with indirect demand analysis from business intelligence and market research, to dynamically analyze the demand patterns for its current and potential markets. Advanced planning, forecasting and simulation are used to determine which products, markets and customers have the highest potential. Products are mapped with the highest economic value against the capabilities of the organization. Strategic plans are finalized and strategies formulated. Those strategies are deployed and then continually evaluated.
