ABSTRACT
This article reports that at the Bus Summit that was held on November 15, 1999, deputy Prime Minister John Prescott has announced a number of initiatives to improve the quality of bus services in Great Britain, including measures in the Transport Bill currently before parliament. He also announced new national targets agreed with the bus industry for reliability and investment and regular bus passenger satisfaction surveys. No more than less than one percent of scheduled bus mileage is to be lost for seasons within an operator's control, including peak hour traffic congestion. The average age of the bus fleet must be reduced to eight years by mid-2001. The introduction of the targets and satisfaction sutveys is also recoreded in the Ten-Year Transport Plan, which was published in July 1999.
