ABSTRACT
This article reports on a feat of logistics and transport that was performed by the English Welsh and Scottish Railway (EWS) when it delivered one of its 21.34 meters long, 126 ton Class 92 locomotives by road to the front door of the Hilton Metropole Hotel in 2001. The purpose was to name it The Institute of Logistics and Transport during the institute convention and exhibition being held in the hotel. The Class 92s are the only locomotives in the world able to operate on four electric traction systems. Since their inception, starting in 1992 when they began hauling services through the Channel Tunnel, they have also worked between Dollands Moor and Feltham, Dollands Moor and Wembley, Crewe and Mossend. The naming ceremony was carried out by Allen Johnson, chief operating officer of the EWS.
