ABSTRACT
This article reports that the European Parliament has announced that is has adopted, on February 5, 2002, the conciliation agreement on the Working Time Directive for the road transportation sector. The directive sets common standards for maximum working time. These are 48 hours average over 17 weeks, breaks, night work and records of working time for long distant truck drivers and bus drivers. Self-employed drivers will be included wihtin the scope of the sirective seven years after its implementation, beginning in 2009. However, circumstances in member states relating to the structure of the transport industry and the working environment of drivers, will be taken into account in a commission study on the consequences of excluding the self-employed.
