ABSTRACT
This article reports that a new free guide, offering truck operators practical information on aerodynamically effective trucks and approrpiate add-on features, has been produced by the Energy Efficiency Best Practice program of the government of Great Britain in 2002. Typically, the primary function of aerodynamically devices fitted to trucks is to reduce vehicle fuel consumption and, hence, improve cost savings. The majority of the guide is devoted to helping the operator predict and realize fuel savings that can be obtained by applying aerodynamic features to a particular truck fleet. The guide should enable the operator to evaluate the effectiveness of aerodynamic styling relative to other fuel-saving methods, be aware of the range of aerodynamic devices available and asses the relevance of sales claims made by manufacturers of add-on aerodynamic features.
