ABSTRACT
This article presents the results of the survey on supply chain management issues encountered by companies, which was conducted by the supply chain transformation company Scio in 2002. Of the 50 companies from top businesses in Great britain that took part in the survey, 31 percdent chose margin enhancement as the key supply chain issue facing their company. Only six percent identified supply chain visibility as a primary concern, seeing visibility as a means to more profit rather than a critical stage in increasing ongoing flexibility, supply chain optimization and creating new channels to market. The same lack of strategic insight is apparent when comapnies consider future challenges. Nearly 30 percent of companies saw margin ernhancement as the most important supply chain issue for their businesses in the next five years.
