The article focuses on the Current Financial Reporting Issues Conference, held in November 2000. In his opening keynote speech Frank Zarb, chairman of the U.S.-based National Association of Securities Dealers and chairman and chief executive officer of Nasdaq, presented an overview of the financial markets. Thomas Pizzutti, director of strategic finance at Internet incubator CMGI, described how investors are now scrutinizing Internet companies for cash flow and profitability. Thomas Stewart, a member of the Board of Editors at Fortune magazine, argued that intellectual capital and knowledge work should somehow be accounted for in financial statements.
