ABSTRACT
The article discusses elements of leadership in a world where employees are mobile, institutional loyalty defunct, and organizational structures flatter. Leaders must be able to listen to others and gain their cooperation in working toward the firm's goals. Sound leadership gives workers an opportunity to experience meaning in their work by empowering them. Managers can no longer rely on a single "star" employee, but must make sure all employees have the skills and resources necessary to do their jobs. INSET: How Leaders Can Encourage Others.
