The article discusses how three forward-looking corporate controllers are adding value to their firms. Adrian Donoghue of Northern Telecom helped create a model to place valuations on his firm's numerous candidates for acquisition and divestiture. He has also implemented a shared services capacity. Under controller Gary Fayard, Coca-Cola has adopted a common business vocabulary for its worldwide operations. He is also developing a prototype information system that ultimately will serve Coca-Cola managers around the world. Nancy Brigham of J.C. Penney has been active in improving her company's decision-making through updated technology.
