ABSTRACT
The article discusses results of a research project that focused on the evolving duties of corporate controllers. Although controllers strongly believe their duties require that they adopt the perspective of a business partner, they sense only lukewarm acceptance of this role on the part of operating managers. Nonetheless controllers envision themselves spending substantially more time in such areas as decision support and business leadership during the next 5 years, and considerably less time on activities related to business controls.
