This article reports on decision to outsource many types of job functions at firms in every major industry sector. Outsourcing non-core functions such as facilities management, real estate, architecture and engineering or project management are being seen as a method for reducing operating costs or to focus resources on core business competencies. Several companies have been created to provide outsourced services on either negotiated contract or through a bid process. However, outsourcing real estate services present unique challenges.
