ABSTRACT
This article examines what factors make a successful merger. A study conducted by Mercer Consulting Group contends that a well done merger lies in the integration. The author outlines some common mistakes in mergers that did not work properly. Many times the integration process is pursued too quickly before relevant issues had time to be recognized. Another key component is being open and honest with employees at all levels of both companies. Communication between the two firms is important if employee retention, morale and cooperation are to be maintained.
