ABSTRACT
The article examines the positive performance of hedge funds in 2000 compared to the Dow Jones Industrial Average, the Standard and Poor's (S&P) 500 index, and the Nasdaq market system. "Market-neutral" or "absolute-return" hedge funds have become a viable option for corporate portfolios, so long as the true absolute-return hedge funds can be identified. According to hedge fund advisor Hennessee Group, hedge funds have done better against domestic stock mutual funds in 12 out of 14 years. Also discussed are the benefits of convertible bonds.
