ABSTRACT
The combination of projectile fragmentation reactions and in-flight separation has proved to be a powerful tool to produce nuclei at the limits of stability. Decay studies of very neutron-deficient projectile fragments led to the discovery of several new β-delayed particle emitters. Basic principles of the method are described and various aspects of extracting interesting spectroscopic information from β-delayed particle studies at projectile fragment separators are discussed.

The feasibility of the β decay study of 8He with the use of a time projection chamber has been investigated. It is shown that β-delayed neutron emission branches of 8He can be identified by registration of tracks of the recoiling 7Li nuclei. Evidence for neutron emission from a highly...

The neutron lifetimes of the core, reflector, and global were experimentally obtained through macroscopic neutron noise in the IPEN/MB-01 reactor for five levels of subcriticality. The theoretical Auto Power Spectral Densities were derived by point kinetic equations taking the reflector effect...

This measurement represents the first observation of a non-yrast band in the 186Pb nucleus by employing the Recoil-Decay Tagging (RDT) technique. Previously known yrast levels have been confirmed and the band is extended up to level IÏ€ = (16+).

The β decays of 102Sn and 104Sn were studied by using high-resolution germanium detectors as well as a Total Absorption Spectrometer (TAS). For 104Sn, with three new β-delayed γ-rays identified, the total Gamow-Teller strength (BGT) value of 2.7(3) was obtained. For 102Sn, the γ-γ...

During the late phases of stellar evolution beta decay on iron isotopes, in the core of massive stars, plays a crucial role in the dynamics of core-collapse. The beta decay contributes in maintaining a ‘respectable’ lepton-to-baryon ratio (Ψe) of the core prior to collapse which...

In the Standard Model of elementary particles, quark-mixing is expressed in terms of a 3 x 3 unitary matrix V , the so called Cabibbo-Kobayashi-Maskawa (CKM) matrix. Significant unitarity checks are so far possible for the first row of this matrix. This article reviews the experimental and...
