They were known as the Camel Corps in the 1970s, a group of mostly crusty old men with a variety of digestive ailments who reported on the Middle East. The jewel in their collective crown was Kathy Evans. Young, vibrant and attractive she could knock spots off most of them and she did, regularly. Most of the Camel Corps are long gone, retired to country cottages in Dorset and Wiltshire, their energies now directed towards Labradors and grandchildren, rather than the political machinations of the Middle East.
