ABSTRACT
The article discusses the identification of bacteria and burrowing worms associated with shell injuries on red abalone in Baja California, Mexico. Topics include the biological relationship between mud worms and parasites without harming the host, the unusual perforations over the shell and other organisms and the external shell lesions.

However, endocytic activity from armadillo neutrophils infected with bacteria, parasites or viruses is unknown. This report shows that neutrophils from armadillos...

If one is gardening in an arid place, he can always plant his seeds in trenches. The author states that garden soil is ideally intensely alive, full of more species than...

As the aqueous sphere has been proposed to be an important source medium for the virus infection of land animals, the glycolipids of some aquatic organisms were exam-ined for human influenza A virus-binding activity. Active compounds were not found among the eight echinoderm gangliosides, but...

The synthesis of a novel series of isatin derivatives bearing an acetamide group is described. These 2-(2,3- dioxo-indolin-1-yl)acetamide derivatives were synthesized by N-carboxymethylation of isatin followed by conversion of the carboxylic acid function into a tertiary amide. In a preliminary...

In many limnetic systems, the input of allochthonous organic matter, e.g., leaf litter, is a substantial source of dissolved organic carbon (DOC) for pelagic bacteria, especially in fall and winter when autochthonous DOC production is low. However, relatively little is known about community...
