ABSTRACT
This article examines the impact of the pending trial of entertainment personality Martha Stewart on her business. Her company, Martha Stewart Living Omnimedia Inc. is plotting its survival with or without its tarnished leader. The company is forging ahead with plans to regain the confidence of readers, viewers and advertisers. The company's woes are well known. Since Ms. Stewart was accused in June 2002 of selling 3,928 shares of ImClone stock after receiving insider information, revenues of her media empire have deflated tremendously. Sharon Patrick, who took over as chief executive of the company when Stewart was indicted, has been busy launching new products and expanding a longstanding strategy to replace the focus on Stewart as a personality with what she calls" quality brand labels."
