ABSTRACT
This article reports that the members of the Central Scottish branch of the Institute of Logistics and Transport visited Scotrail's CCTV Center at Dunfermline. The CCTV Center currently provides coverage at a total of 17 stations in the East of Scotland, with almost 300 cameras providing 24-hour-a-day surveillance. Robert Malcolm, the CCTV operator on duty explained how the system works. The CCTV system records images from each camera on to both a hard disk and videotape. The use of a hard disk provides instant playback. Cameras covering the station environs, not just the platforms, and include car parks, underpasses and waiting rooms. Each camera provides constant coverage and can operate at night.
