This article reports that members of the Freight Transport special interest groups of the Institute of Logistics and Transport enjoyed a visit to the Defense Storage and Distribution Center at the Lower Arncott. They were entertained with tea and a video of the goods in use. They then took a coach that took them from the Officers' Mess to see work in progress. The staff are civilians and the group was given a clear description of the new storage system. The big site at the Lower Arncott has 42 miles of rail, some of which is used for internal movement between store and dispatch. Trains are also used for delivery to and from the Army and Air Force bases in Great Britain. Although distance army procurement sets priority levels for dispatch, the local traffic manager has the choice of mode and day so that it can be flexible and efficient.
