ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Buddens Coaches company has implemented the FREEWAY, a computer system for managing fleet maintenance. As well as maintaining its own fleet, the Hampshire-based company is offering a complete maintenance support service to bus and coach operators. The computer system is seen as crucial to achieving the high service levels required for this new contract maintenance division. By automating, recording and analyzing job cards, keeping track of parts and their costs, the system identifies rogue vehicles and areas for potential savings. Also the company can now optimize stock levels and minimize the time its coaches are in the workshops. Warranty claims are another area where the company expects to make significant savings.
