ABSTRACT
This article reports that the Shepered company has produced a report on ways to reduce energy costs, highlighting particular opportunities for refrigerated and temperature-controlled warehouses. This is in connection with the imminent introduction of an energy tax in April 2001 in Great Britain. The Climate Change Levy is a tax on the business use of energy and will be paid for by the final consumer of energy. The levy will increase typical average energy bills by an estimated 11-13 percent. The report covers what the tax will cost and ways that companies can reduce their energy use and the impact of the energy tax. The report was developed with senior personnel of leading companies in six energy-intensive sectors to ensure it met industry needs, including distribution and warehousing.
