ABSTRACT
The author of this article presents his views on two important events, which were held in the last quarter of 2000, that are likely to have an impact on the activities of the Institute of Logistics and Transport. First, he attended the meeting of the institute's council in early October, and later in the month the meeting of the Chartered Institute of Transport's (CIT) International Council in Birmingham, England. Both meetings took a hard look at strategic issues. The meeting of the institute's council reinforced the vital importance of communication, both internally and externally in the life of the institute. The CIT International Council has been examining how the CIT might best discharge its international role. It has resolved to recommend to its members that it should broaden its approach to include logistics as well as transport, becoming The Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport and seeking expansion accordingly.
