ABSTRACT
E-learning group Thomson NETg is to axe its Irish plant in order to centralize its global product development in the U.S. In a statement, the company said that, as part of an ongoing assessment and reorganization, it was headquartering its product development in Illinois. Company president Joe Dougherty says the firm had to respond to changes in the industry, which is being hit by a slowdown in demand for IT training products and services. Thomson NETg had promised an additional 360 jobs for Limerick and another site at Birr, bringing total staffing to 700 by the end of 2005.
