This article reports that the Wavecom Inc. has introduced the world's first quad band integrated wireless module for manufacturers of phone handsets and PDAs. The 850 megahertz band is the newcomer. It was recently introduced for GSM/GPRS to enable new carriers, and carriers using other technologies like the AMPS and the TDMA, to lay the foundation for providing so-called 2.5 and third generation services. The quadband module will also help young emerging handset manufacturers to compete with other companies. They can offer handsets tailored for niche markets without having to bother reinventing the radio interface bit of things.
