Survey shows working mothers still in conflict over working and bringing up children

This article presents results of a survey conducted among working parents in Great Britain in 2002. Majority of parents believe that becoming a parent has substantially affected their career. The survey also shows that this belief is particularly likely to be held by women. Just under half of the working parents interviewed worked in organizations where some form of flexible working was available. Where flexible working was available, take-up was high. 73 percent of working parents feel that their employer does not suffer sufficient financial support for working parents. Having children is viewed as a major source of stress. Along with childcare commitments, domestic responsibilities and time for partners, many working parents do not feel they get enough time for themselves. Parents do feel that the government or employers are doing enough to help and support working parents.
