ABSTRACT
Reception-improving receive diversity is going to be an important technology for mobile networks in the future, but its true significance will take some time to be appreciated, according to Qualcomm CDMA Technologies. Receive diversity technology uses two antennas and two receive channels to improve signal reception in a mobile phone. The U.S. firm announced the launch of its receive diversity radioOne zero intermediate frequency RFR6500 device for CDMA2000 1X and 1xEV-DO networks last week. Qualcomm also launched the single-band RFR6122 and RFT6122 radioOne chips, for CDMA2000 1X networks, its first chips to be manufactured using CMOS technology. The plan is to address the low cost handset market and then rollout CMOS technology across Qualcomm's chipset range.
